Kathmandu, Nepal (Sept. 19, 2016): UPF-Nepal celebrated the United Nations International Day of Peace 2016. The theme was “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.” We celebrated this program in 7 states of Nepal.
UPF see education as essential for meaningful, sustainable social change. We organized the program based on the UN Sustainable Development seventeen Goals. Most of our program conducted on schools centering on SDG no. 4. Quality Education.
This event was participated by the Current govt. Minister of Forest and Soil Conservation Hon. Shankar Bhandari, and former Minister Hon. Jayant Chand, 7 current prominent Member of Parliament from government and opposition and from the Academic field was participated by the National PABSAN president Prof. Karna Bahadur Shahi and the president of TRAP-Nepal Prof. T.R Dhakal. A total of 150 participated the program including the Ambassador for Peace, Captain of Nepal Army, Journalist and civil society leaders. The Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s statement was delivered by Mr. Binod Dangi Secretary General of UPF Nepal.
Pokhara: Mr. Ram Chandra Devkota organized youth awareness program at Pokhara. The UN Secretary-General’s message was read by AFP Mr. Khem Bahadur Gurung, Principal of Social Public School. The chief guest was Professor Ganesh Bahadur Gurung, an Ambassador for Peace. 250 people predicated the program.
Second program in the Pokhara city was “River Clean Program:” over 500 people joined to clean river.
Chitwan: Mr. Ram Prasad Gyawali and AFP Dr. Hom Bagadur Basnet , Peace Council Coordinator, organized and celebrated International Day of Peace in Chitwan at Shree Rastya Prathamic Biddhalaya Bharatpur, Lama tole. Chair person was Dr. Hom Bdr. Basnet and Chief Guest was Principal Mr. Hari Bhakta Sharma. Stationery items were distributed to 60 students for their quality education.
Jhapa: Mr. Rajendra Murti Panta and AFP Shiva Kumar Paudel organized a talk program on the theme, “Quality education program” at the Shantinagar School; over 300 students participated in the program.
Surkhet: International Day of Peace celebrated with orphan 110 children at Surkhet. They are studying in Balmandir school. Around 60 students received educational materials .we distribute stationery for the very poor and orphan children for the purpose of quality education. UPF introduction to teachers and school supporter was given there.
Saptari: Mr. Santosh Kumar Das organized and celebrated International Day of Peace in Saptari School. Stationery items were distributed to 40 students for their quality education.
Dhangadi: Mr. Navin Bajagain and AFP Jhankar Bahadur Bista organized a talk program on the theme, “Quality education program” at the Dasharath Higher School. School; over 92 students participated in the program.
