About the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU)

The essence of the Family Federation’s teaching is simple: it is building an ideal family in which all the various types of love are manifested in their fullness. From a religious viewpoint, this could be expressed as a family in which God can rejoice.

The systemized teaching of the Family Federation is known as the Divine Principle. It explains the attributes of God as relationally based – thus God is the essence of both masculinity and femininity, and a man and a woman are manifestations of these two complementary aspects of God’s characteristics. Their joining together in marriage represents the merging of the two complementary aspects (yang and yin, male and female) of God into one unit with true love in the center.

Love is the center of all of God’s attributes. It is unchanging and eternal. Therefore, a husband and wife bound together in God’s love are an unchanging and eternal couple.

God’s ideal is to see families where the love between parents and children, between husband and wife, and between brothers and sisters grows and fills each family and is then passed down to the ensuing generations. It is through the experience of love as children to our parents, as brothers and sisters, as husbands and wives, and as parents to our children that we inherit God’s heart as our own and are then able to embrace the world with God’s love and create one family of humankind under the love of our Heavenly Parent.

“As such a family expands to become a clan, a people, a nation, the world and cosmos, the kingdom of heaven on earth and in heaven comes into being. And in the midst of this, God exists as the Parent, Teacher and King.” – Dr. Sun Myung Moon

The Family Federation is comprised of families all over the world who have a common vision of a world of peace and harmony among all peoples, races, and religions. This ideal was envisioned by Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon, who taught that healthy families and a world of lasting peace are built upon the foundation of spiritually mature individuals. Such men and women look outward to the needs of others rather than thinking about their own happiness. Each family member learns to live for the sake of others and thus the family embodies the ideals of true love. The Family Federation supports this ideal in a world where such idealism is viewed as old-fashioned, and thus champions more traditional family values that are under attack from secular and humanistic ideological worldviews.

For all this, FFWPU has a down-to-earth approach and seeks to collaborate with other organizations, including partners in the professional world and interfaith initiatives, to find practical ways to improve people’s relationship with the environment and with each other.
